The Gallery of the Accademia was founded in 1784, when the Grand Duke Leopold of Lorraine set up the Accademia of Fine Arts with the idea of gathering all works of art owned by the art school in one museum. The statue of David was brought there in 1873 in 1882 Emilio De Fabris made the tribune on which the imposing statue still stands today. In the afternoon, after break lunch (not included), your tour continue with the visit of the Uffizi Gallery. Situated inside Piazza della Repubblica, the Uffizi Gallery is the oldest museum in the world as well as the first museum opened to the public. Designed by Vasari in the 16th century, the palace eventually became a gallery when the second floor was closed in order to house and arrange the Grand Ducal collection of statues, paintings, jewelry, medals, weapons, etc. The Uffizi Gallery boasts one of the most important collection of works of art in the world: the Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” and “La Primavera” or “Allegory of the Springtime“, Piero della Francesca’s portrait of spouses “Federico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza”, the famous Filippo Lippi’s “Madonna with Child and Angels“, Leonardo da Vinci’s “Annunciation and Adoration of the Magi” and “The Baptism of Christ“, Michelangelo’s “Holy Family“, Raphael’s “Madonna del Cardellino” and Titian’s “Venus of Urbino“. Furthermore, inside the Uffizi you will see the famous Vasari Corridor, an added wing featuring the works of Caravaggio, Rubens and Rembrandt.
